Queen Bed Frames
Queen sized bed frames are the most popular of all bed sizes. A standard queen bed frame measures approximately 60″ x 80″ making it smaller than double bed yet big enough to accommodate two people comfortably.
There are three basic styles of queen bed frames; a normal bed frame, a hook on queen bed frame and a bolt on queen bed frame. The traditional queen bed frames are heavy with locking wheels. It has no footboard. The frame is self supporting, i.e it does not need a headboard to keep it in place, however, it does have provisions for bolts in case a user wishes to have a headrest.
The bolt on queen bed frames are structured in a way that headboards and footboards can be affixed separately if one wishes. This kind of bed frame is usually made of wrought iron or brass. Bolt on queen bed frames are extremely heavy and cannot be moved. If at all it has to be moved, the entire bed needs to be detached and then set up at the desired location. Bolt on queen bed frames are very sturdy.
The hook on queen bed frame is the oldest category of all. It is designed so that no bolts are visible from the footboard. Instead of bolts it has hooks that fit into the head and foot boards. It does not have thick side rails like the other two varieties and is in fact structurally quite weak.
A recent innovation in queen sized bed frames is the low profile queen size bed frame. Unlike normal queen sized frames which stand 7 inches above the ground, the low profile beds are just 4 inches above the floor. This allows the customer to use thick mattresses without raising the bed too high. Mattresses of up to 20 inches of thickness can be conveniently used for low profile queen bed frames.
A queen bed frame is exceptionally heavy and therefore requires more support than regular bed frames. For an even weight distribution, queen bed frames have five supports; four on each corner and one center support. The central support rail in queen bed frames allow people more options in terms of mattresses. In fact, a lot of people prefer using water filled mattresses to regular mattresses on queen beds.
But, do remember that the weight of the queen bed frame comes from the material used in making it and the kind of mattress used. The size of the bed itself is not that large.
Queen bed frames are ideal for putting in guest rooms or smaller master bedrooms
